Chantal Akerman made her landmark oeuvre, Jeanne Dielman, and showed it at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival before she was twenty-five - younger than Orson Welles when he made Citizen Kane or Godard when he made Breathless. An all-woman production team was unheard of at the time. But Autour de Jeanne Dielman offers intrigued viewers a peak through the keyhole, revealing the ‘making of’ process of a most audacious film. One gets a good sense of the working relationship between then seasoned actress Delphine Seyrig and the young Akerman. Shot by Sami Frey, it offers Akermaniacs an intimate, enriching, and rare point of view.
