Opening Event in Sultan’s Pool in the presence of 5000 viewers, 200 films from 50 different countries, film competitions awarded by international jury members, meetings with filmmakers from Israel and abroad, professional events for the film industry, premiere screenings, parties, performances, outdoor events, and more

Statement on behalf of Dr. Noa Regev, Director of the Jerusalem Cinematheque and Film Festival, and Elad Samorzik, the Festival’s Artistic Director:

“We believe there is no replacement for the physical connection created at film festivals between the audience, the filmmakers, and film on the big screen, and we are very excited to announce that the upcoming festival will take place onsite after a very challenging year. The Festival staff is working around the clock in order to ensure an especially festive edition. We anticipate a large number of viewers from Israel and abroad at the Jerusalem Cinematheque and at the different festival venues throughout the city.”

The Jerusalem Film Festival, the largest, most veteran, and leading event of its kind in Israel, will take place in less than three months, from August 24 – September 2, 2021.

Following the removal of restrictions upon gatherings and cultural events, this year’s festival will take place onsite in the screening halls of the Jerusalem Cinematheque and at theatrical venues throughout Jerusalem. The 38th festival edition will open on August 24th, as per tradition, in a festive gala screening at Sultan’s Pool in the presence of 5,000 viewers.

The Festival will feature over 200 films from 50 different countries reflecting the best cinematic crop of the past year, both local and international. The artistic selection will include the most outstanding and lauded films of the past year, already having made their way through the festival circuit, among them, Berlin, Cannes, Venice, and Sundance. The Jerusalem Film Festival will hold an average of ten film competitions, awarding prizes by an international jury.

The twelve days of the Festival will feature onstage conversations with leading Israeli and international filmmakers, professional film industry events, gala premieres, parties, performances, as well as a wide range of outdoor screenings and events. Additional details to come soon.
