An ensemble of dancers meets in an isolated building to rehearse for three days. On the last night they throw a wild party – they unwind to the beat of Techno and drink sangria to oblivion. But gradually, things spiral out of control and the vibrantly lit dance floor turns into a sinister abyss. Gaspar Noé, the enfant terrible of French cinema, returned to Cannes this year with Climax, and left with rounds of accolades under his belt. The brilliant director initially lures us with spectacular shots, exquisite soundtrack, and enticing rhythms only to shatter the idyll and replace it with a hell-on-earth. The result is a mesmerizing, multi-sensory cinematic experience.
