A seemingly peaceful bay serves as the meeting point for a range of outlandish characters: a poor family harvesting mussels, a rich family on vacation and a rotund police inspector investigating a series of mysterious disappearances.
Bruno Dumont (Flanders) continues in the direction he took with Li'l Quinquin, merging comedy and suspense. Slack Bay, screened at the official competition in Cannes, offers a touch of vaudeville, a lot of slapstick and a dash of the bizarre courtesy of the fantastic cast, headed by Juliette Binoche, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Fabrice Luchini. Dumont smartly contracts the pastoral landscapes with his loud characters and attacks bourgeois values with biting humor.
