On a Sunday in the spring of 1924, when all the maids leave the estates to visit their mothers, Jane finds herself alone. An orphan, she plans to spend her day off visiting a neighboring estate – to meet her lover, an aristocrat engaged to someone else. She borrows a bicycle and sets out, without knowing that the events of the day will change her life forever. MOTHERING SUNDAY is a beautiful and sensual drama, superbly filmed, set in a British village after WW1. Amidst sprawling estates, blue lakes, and green grass, the aristocratic families and the servants learn to cope with past tragedies in hopes of a better future. Based on an award-winning novel by Graham Swift.
