On a Sunday in the spring of 1924, when all the maids leave the estates to visit their mothers, Jane finds herself alone. An orphan, she plans to spend her day off visiting a neighboring estate – to meet her lover, an aristocrat engaged to someone else. She borrows a bicycle and sets out, without knowing that the events of the day will change her life forever.
