Bernadette Lafont, And God Created the Free Woman

France 2016 | 65 minutes | French | English, Hebrew subtitles

Veteran documentarian Esther Hoffenberg takes us on an inspiring documentary journey in the footsteps of Bernadette Lafont (1938 - 2013), French Cinema's most atypical actress. The film traces her unusual life and impressive career (spanning over 191 films), from her work as a pinup girl, through her status as the sensual star of the New Wave, to her unforgettable role in Paulette (2012). The star's friends reminisce, while her granddaughters revisit Bernadette's dreams in her childhood home in the Cevennes region of southern France. The film is strewn with appearances by Lafont, presenting a fascinating character, whose life both on and off the screen was marked with insolence, courage and freedom.
