The Pill

Israel 1972 | 92 minutes | Hebrew | Hebrew, English subtitles

The first fictional feature film directed by David Perlov, this visually striking burlesque fantasy tells the story of a fountain-of-youth pill and its unexpected effects on Getz (Yossi Banai), a down-and-out nightclub singer in Tel Aviv. After taking the sought-after pill, Getz transforms into the epitome of youthful energy—becoming a teen idol and a symbol of beauty and vitality—all leading to the film’s cathartic conclusion.  The film brings together a cast of highly acclaimed Israeli theatre actors, complemented by an original soundtrack and memorable musical moments by composer Yohanan Zarai.

A newly-restored copy produced by the Israel Film Archive and supported by the Werner Braun Foundation. Restored in 4K from the original 35mm Dupe positive and optical Sound.
