In April, Naomi, a beautiful Australian student arrives in Brooklyn. She is hired by Nick, an archivist working on his father-in-law’s estate. Incited by her caustic sister, Nick’s wife becomes suspicious of the young woman. Meanwhile, Naomi meets Buddy, a childhood acquaintance whose marriage is less than perfect. Naomi means no harm; still, her mere presence elicits pain in those around her – the pain and frustration of dreams turned sour. In his latest film, Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip) employs a superb cast (Emily Browning, Mary-Louise Parker, Jason Schwartzman), and combines intimate close-ups, lucid dialogue, and sensitive soundtrack to explore the intricacies of human behavior.
