Death in Venice

This year, the Festival is screening the documentary film, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOY IN THE WORLD, an account of the life of Björn Andrésen, known as the beautiful boy and subject of Gustav von Aschenbach’s (Dirk Bogarde) obsession in the film, DEATH IN VENICE. This is an excellent opportunity to revisit Luchino Visconti’s 1971 masterpiece in a new and restored version. 

F for Fake

Orson Welles loves the art of illusion. With filmmaker François Reichenbach, he seeks to portray one of the greatest forgers, Elmyr de Hory, who admirably imitated the works of contemporary painters. Dressed as a magician, Welles keeps us intrigued, plays around with the truth and lies behind his editing table.

Letter from an Unknown Woman

Solaris

SOLARIS is based on a novel by renowned Polish writer Stanisław Lem, the subject of a tribute at this year’s JFF. The film follows a group of Cosmonauts sent to explore a strange planet made of liquid gas that has leaked into our solar system. A newly restored print.

This deeply tragic romance already exhibits the astonishingly formal control and penetrating insights into the human condition that would later make him legendary in films like IL GRIDO, L'AVVENTURA, and BLOW-UP.
