Joy, a young Nigerian immigrant, finds herself trapped in the vicious world of female trafficking. She sells her body every night on the streets of Vienna to pay her debts to her exploitive employer, while providing for her family in Nigeria, and hoping to secure a brighter future for her daughter. While Joy struggles to understand her role in the system, the Madam appoints her to take charge of Precious, a young Nigerian girl who refuses to accept her fate. Two extraordinary performances are at the center of Iranian director Sudabeh Mortezai’s new film, which offers a fresh and touching take on a familiar theme. Since its début at the Venice Film Festival (where it received two awards), Joy has screened at dozens of festivals worldwide.
