This film transports us to 1980s Peru, when the country is at the peak of its political crisis. Georgina, a destitute pregnant young woman from the Andes, decides to have her child at a free clinic, however, immediately following the birth, she discovers her baby has been kidnapped. The corrupt authorities neglect to help her, and in her desperate search she encounters a bold journalist who decides to investigate the case. Melina León’s debut film is a Kafkaesque narrative based on real-life cases of child kidnapping. Skillfully interweaving Inti Briones’s stylized monochromatic cinematography and layers of music composed by Pauchi Sasaki, León’s film marks the young Peruvian as a promising name in contemporary cinema. The film made its debut at Cannes Directors Fortnight.
