Since presenting his first feature, Blood, at the Venice Film Festival in 1989, Pedro Costa has become one of the most interesting and original cinematic voices. His most notable films include In Vanda's Room (2000), Colossal Youth (2006) and Horse Money (2014). Vitalina Varela, which has won dozens of awards including the Golden Leopard in Locarno, continues to combine elements of fiction and documentary while creating breathtaking dark images and blending history, memory, and politics.
