Ava

Ava, a middle-class teenager in Tehran, is under strict supervision: severe discipline in school, arduous violin lessons, and an early evening curfew. When she develops an intimate relationship with a boy, her mother inexcusably invades Ava’s privacy. For the first time, Ava senses a spark of rebellion that pushes her to challenge the policing forces in her life. As a result, she finds herself in a life-threatening situation. Sadaf Foroughi’s debut is a complex cinematic portrait of one young woman who represents many women in a country victimized by religious fanaticism. Foroughi’s talent is evident in precise frames and penetrating scenes which together form an effective and provocative film.
