Days

Taiwan 2020 | 127 minutes | No Dialogue

Kang lives alone in a large house. As he watches the rain pouring down on the treetops, an unexplained pain grips his body. He tries to find treatment that will provide some relief and ends up in another country. Non lives in a modest apartment in Bangkok and works hard cooking traditional meals. When the two meet in a hotel room, their loneliness seems to disappear for a few moments. Tsai Ming-Liang (The Wayward Cloud) has established himself as one of the most esteemed filmmakers of our generation through a series of films that rarely use dialogue and narrative, and are composed mainly of long, static shots. In Days, he continues to work with actor Lee Kang-Sheng, honing his observation of the mysterious, fragile, and sensuous human body while examining the encounter between two men who leave behind their dark reality for a single night. As always, when Tsai directs his camera toward everyday occurrences, they are filled with meaning   ̶   new, surprising, and extremely moving.
