Hungary

A critically acclaimed, award-winning director. His first film Pleasant Days (2002) was awarded the Silver Leopard in Locarno. His following films premiered in Cannes, including Johanna (2005), Delta (2008), Tender Son (2010), White God (2014), Jupiter's Moon (2017), Evolution (2021). Pieces of a Woman (2020), his first English-language film, premiered in Venice.

 

Jasmila Žbanić

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Studied theater and film directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. Since 1997, she has produced, written and directed many films. Her feature debut Grbavica won the Golden Bear at the 2006 Berlinale. Her latest film Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020) premiered in Venice and won three European Film Academy Awards, two BAFTAs and a nomination for an Oscar in the International category.

 

Joseph Cedar

Israel

An acclaimed Israeli filmmaker whose films Beaufort (2008) and Footnote (2012) were nominated for Academy Awards. These films won Best Director at the Berlinale and Best Screenplay in Cannes, respectively. Cedar also wrote and directed Time of Favor (2001), Campfire (2004), Norman (2017), and created the HBO miniseries Our Boys (2019).

 

Alexandru Belc

Romania

Graduated from the Bucharest Film Academy in 2007. He worked as assistant director for Corneliu Porumboiu and Cristian Mungiu and was the director of several short films, both fiction and documentary. His feature debut Metronom (2022) received the Best Director Award at Cannes' Un Certain Regard sidebar and was awarded Best International Film at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
